Cathy Krohn

I have been the Career Pathways Coordinator at LR for the past three years. I work with the students from the 9th through the12th grade. Because I attended college and owned my own business for fifteen years, I am able to bring both academic skills and job skills from the real world to my students. Feel free to contact me regarding any aspect of your student's career plans.

Special Events Coordinated by Pathways for our students include:

October: College Fair both at the middle school and at the high school. This event allows recruiters to help students understand what is expected of them by the colleges. Students also learn how their high school success will help them later in life.

November: Career Day at Lake Roosevelt. Community members teach our students about their careers. This event is always held the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

December: Free Application for Federal Student Aid Workshop. This workshop is held in the evening for parents and students. The application must be completed by any student planning on attending college.

February: Ground Hog Job Shadow Day. Students may spend the day with a community member at their place of work. They learn about job skills as well as training necessary for many jobs in our area.

May: Senior Oral Boards. Seniors are required to participate in a formal interview with members of the community. This interview allows the seniors to talk about their high school career as well as their future plans. It also prepares our seniors for job or college interviews.

Throughout the year: I schedule college recruiter visits, post-high school workshops, interviews with colleges, and I act as a liaison between the students and their college or training choices. Please check the Pathways website for more information.

Pathways projects completed by all students include:

  • Interest area assessments
  • "You and Your Abilities" assessments
  • Goal planning
  • College and career research projects
  • Job interview skills and work ethics skills
  • LIfe skills such as budgeting, information on financing an auto, and income tax information
  • Lessons for parents and students on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Every student heading to college needs to fill out this important form.
  • PREP file organization
  • Resumes and job applications
  • College applications and personal essays
  • Scholarship applications
  • Community service, both for underclass students and seniors

Each year, students do projects suited to their grade level. The projects are designed to help each student create an individual plan for his/her post high school years.
